(1) The tune is produced by the keyboard, which is stamped out in a special quality steel, then split in order to obtain 36 strips. The strips are then tuned to vibrate on the right notes. Moreover, feathers (a) are glued by hand under the basses to control the vibrations and ensure the purity of the notes. |
(2) The 41 components of the musical movement are set on the plate (base) by 6 nickel-plated screws.
Made of solid brass, the plate is brushed, then gold-plated*. (3) The barrel is made of gold-plated* brass. It hides the mechanism of the winder which is located under the box. |
| (4) In every gold-plated brass roll, 160 to 220 holes are drilled according to the melody arranged for the musical movement by the composer, the “transposer” in our jargon. Pins of steel are driven by hand in every hole. | |
| (5) The regulator is made of gold-plated* brass. It ensures a good rhythm to the melody. | |
| The brass and glass case is manufactured by hand by specialised craftsmen. | |
| The finish of the brass requires 26 delicate operations (sanding, sandpaper, lacquer, polish, gilding, cooking…), which confer its precious character to this music box. The cabochons are made of lapis-lazuli. | |
| The glass is cut and polished by hand, which gives it a crystal appearance. | |
| Four coatings of laque are poured into these pits (6). Four cookings and several polishes – a total of 17 manual operations - are necessary in order to produce this high-quality item. Finally, the part will be covered with a gold coating (7). |
Wind up the key (b) without forcing. To start the melody, push the front button (c) to the right.
The trigger (d) will come out of the hole (e). The roll will play a complete turn. To stop the melody, carry out the inverse operation. |
| Your music box does not require any particular maintenance. So as not to damage it, please use the enclosed cloth. | |
| Five years warranty from date of purchase on manufacturing mechanical defects only. | |
| *The 23 carat gilding ensures protection of the sensitive parts against oxidation. | |
